How Thermal Oxidisers work

When harmful or dangerous pollutants must be curbed, thermal oxidation works by using extreme heat to convert volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and hazardous air pollutants (HAPs) to carbon dioxide and water vapour.

The degree of destruction or reduction efficiency (DRE) in the oxidizer is largely controlled by three design parameters: time, temperature, and turbulence.

Regenerative Thermal Oxidisers (RTO)

Rugged, simple and highly efficient.

Regenerative thermal oxidizers (RTOs) have remained popular for many types of manufacturers due to their longevity, simplicity and immense efficiency.

Catalytic Thermal Oxidisers (CTO)

Reduction in the amount of heat needed to destroy pollutants results in curbed fuel and energy costs.

The use of catalysts also allows start-up time to be reduced, resulting in greater control over the thermal oxidation process.

Recuperative Thermal Oxidisers

Recuperative systems use lower-cost materials in their production and are much smaller than other oxidizers, keeping capital costs down.

These systems design are also simpler than RTOs, with fewer moving parts, making maintenance and repair easier, and therefore, less cost-intensive.

Direct Fired Thermal Oxidisers (DFTO)

When other thermal oxidiser units won’t get the job done.

When it comes to achieving prime destruction or reduction efficiency (DRE) no matter what, there is simply no substitute for the direct-fired thermal oxidizer.

Sometimes called an afterburner, enclosed flare or vapor combustor, these powerful systems are among the simplest in the world of thermal oxidation.
